They know the visual language and reach larger audience! But apart from that….here is what we think:
According to Harvard Researchers: https://hbr.org/2014/04/what-makes-the-best-infographics-so-convincing – Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present information quickly and clearly. They are known for improving cognition by utilizing graphics to enhance the human visual system’s ability to see patterns and trends. In simple words they are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge intended to present complex information quickly and clearly. They simply collect data organises it and turns it into an easily understandable way for the audience to see it. Infographics have evolved in recent years to be for mass communication and therefore have expanded to greater communication networks.
Social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are two of the most wide spread networks that have allowed for individual infographics to be spread among many people around the world. When it comes to information spreading through the press, infographics are commonly used to show the weather, as well as maps, site plans, and graphs for summaries of data. For instance, we can say that the Snapshots in USA Today are also an example of simple infographics used to convey news and current events. Infographics are almost fully integrated to today’s society being used show us route maps, transit networks, transfer points and local landmarks.
It has been shown that 90% of the information that we actually remember is based on visual impact created by iphographics. The London Underground and the Washington Metro can be used as an excellent example of well-known infographics to the general public. The routes depicted via inphographics are easily remembered and integrated to the memory of the people using them frequently.
There are a million reasons why infographics are an amazing invention and great for our everyday use, few of these are:
1) infographics are eye-catching and better remembered than words,
2) they get shared more around the web
3) they increase brand awareness, they boost interest, readership and reach and are therefore easily scanned, viewed and portable,
4) they are well-designed and aesthetically pleasing thus increasing traffic and shares among people, 5) they are engaging, compelling and attractive,
6) they have worldwide coverage and
7) they increase traffic on the social media.
All in all info-graphics make the life of the users easier, either by facilitating their way on the spot through maps and routes as well as by making them memorable and easy to remember.
